IMPERMANENT
Expressive video
There are many different styles and variations of tattoos and the meaning behind these works of art. There is communication and an exchange of voice when these different tattoos clash and interact with each other. They immediately create a conversation and the content is changed by the surrounding context, the environment in which the art is placed and lives.
In this project, I wanted to experiment with the juxtaposition of completely different styles of tattoos and how they would interact. I wanted to create this piece with ink, while at the same time exploring the idea of temporary and permanence using new media, a medium that is not associated with tattoos.
----
The images were freehanded onto a piece of glass. The word impermanent is located in the center of the piece. I wanted to create an environment that weaved the different tattoo styles into one larger piece. This is similar to how full body suits (tattoo suits) are stylized, there is no real beginning or end of each tattoo. This created a dialogue between the different tattoos and different cultures were able to represent themselves individually, but also together as a whole.
It's self expression.
It's permanent.
It's ink.
