TC1000: Moby 2.0

We presented Moby 2.0 at Modo and everything went very well. Our presentation reflected the friendly and playful aspects of our cart. Thanks to Modo for sponsoring our senior design studio project, and for giving great feedback in both conceptual development, as well as design direction.

TC1000: Logo Design

After much thought about what to call our cart, we finally landed on something that was both gender neutral and friendly: Moby.

We wanted the logo to be friendly & playful, robotic/tech, and clean & simple. Below a few variations for the logo.

TOOLS: Making the Sheet Metal Lamp

I’ve never worked with sheet metal before, so this was something completely new to me. It wasn’t as difficult as I imagined, but after a few cuts, scraps, and the help of some tools, this is the result!

I am still determining where I want the light bulb, since it works better as a sculpture piece. I’ll also be painting the interior white to contrast with the steel.

TC1000: iPad & Velcro

Our cart is using the iPad as the user interface and as the platform for personal interactive gaming. This video shows the versatility of the iPad and everything that it can do. + velcro. :)

TC1000: Building Prototype

Plan B

We took what we learned from the first prototype and made some revisions to Prototype Plan B.

The base was created to be more symmetrical and “bubbly”. We also made each foot wider and rounder. From there we stacked foam blocks and started to carve away.

Our form was a little narrower than we liked, so we moved some blocks around and came up with a form that flowed better – happy accident!

We’re going back elementary – foam, paper mache, plaster cloth… but this all speaks to our audience – kids.

It’s been a fun process, and we’ve learned a lot from our mistakes. It’s all helped us get to where we are now.

Now that the form is in physical reality, I’m even more excited to see the final product. Stay tuned! It’s all coming together REALLY soon.
